I Love Gadgets Like NetbooksPDAs, iPhones And The Toshiba Thrive
I adore gadgets. PDAs, cell-phones, tablets, netbooks, you mention it have always caught my attention. These convenient transportable tools and "toys" make our day to day existence much more pleasurable and productive. I am going back a bit farther than most to before the paper planner.
Back in the 60's I was obsessive about making plans which I proceeded not to follow. I'd work out the day with precision that would make "Covey" jealous and then carry on to just do the day like a stream of consciousness flitting from one thing to another. I had an instructor who was fascinated by these exercises. I wouldn't be confounded if he didn't get into one of the early planners.
Gadgets with all their alarms and portability eventually allowed me to basically succeed in executing one of my fantastically designed days. Each time I'd head off on a tangent, the reminder would put me back on course.
I loved the Psion handhelds and I had all of the different models including the series 7 and a "NetBook"- That's the one before all of the popular Netbooks of today. The Net book could be dropped a meter to a wooden floor without damage. They were solidly built and about the scale of a modern Netbook, only 10 times heavier.
When ASUS came out with the 1st Net Book predecessor I had to have one. I detested it because the screen was poorly designed and tricky to use, although it was light and could literally thrown into a back pack. Nonetheless four Net Books later I wouldn't go anywhere with out one.
IPhones and other smart phones have made everything tiny, but if you understand how to use one they are very strong tools. Still I wasn't entirely happy with the little screen for using the internet. Still I wouldn't be without one for scheduling and notes.
In comes the iPad followed by the Android 3.0 tablet platform. All of the benefits of the smartphone with a screen large enough to really surf the internet. Android is making a good showing against the iPad 2 with its release of the Android 3.1 platform. It appears that Apple will need to come out with some new features solely to assert the iPads domination of the Tablet market.
I have really become keen on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Lenovo 3.1 model. There seems to be a correlation between what sort of cell phone you use and whether you prefer the iPad 2 or the new Android 3.1 Tablet PCs.
Yes I adore devices and I suspect the conflict between Apple and Google will cause the genesis of some great leading edge technology. For a widget junky like me this is a happy thing!
